Day 2: FDCI x Lakme Fashion Week 2021
Honouring the ethics of the fashion industry by creating designs through the representation of sustainability in their collections, the LFW x FDCI Day 2 was a day to remember. Aiming to keep the traditions alive, this day saw stunning collaborations that strengthen the ideals of fashion.
Opening the day with a bang, it featured R|Elan ‘Fashion for Earth’ presenting the largest sustainable fashion award in association with the United Nations Environment Programme. The designers fulfilled the initiation to transform the fashion ecosystem and uplift sustainability through the circular design challenge by utilising the best possible sustainable methods, ranging from upcycled denims to zero waste garments. This was followed by PETA India’s amazing showcase of looks that ranged from formal to casuals, highlighting the versatility of vegan clothing. The Cocccon Label didn’t disappoint by showcasing stunning summer styles coloured in vibrant hues making the style quotient reach high. Their sustainable garments sure did give us a glimpse into the upcoming futuristic era.
All the three collections featured by All About India were a spectacular addition to the second day with all of them swearing by the rulebook of sustainability. Chola by Sohaya Misra beautifully presented it’s simplistically complicated garments in black and white. Pranav Mishra and Shyam Shetty’s Huemn played with the definitions of luxury as they presented their stylish unisex collection with silhouettes that complimented all the genders equally. Khanijo’s collection also dabbled with unisex clothing, highlighting the use of natural fabrics with beautiful colours that were inspired by nature.
Payal Pratap’s collection was a sight to behold with the garments bringing out bold hues in silhouettes that aimed to ignite a sense of nostalgia and introspection. The collection ranged from sari dresses to checked jackets. Experimenting with contemporary silhouettes, Ritu Kumar’s authenticity shined through and offered a perfect ending to the day with a collection of striking floral prints with a touch of sophistication.
The Day 2 of the LFW x FDCI was successful in giving us a glimpse into how the industry is venturing into sustainable and ethical techniques of producing garments all the while remaining true to their origins.
