Datamini Janunnati Pad launched with Aadhaar-approved fingerprint scanner
Datamini, the Indian PC manufacturer, has launched a new enterprise-class tablet that incorporates Aadhaar-card approved fingerprint scanner right into the tablet. While it looks just like any other 7-inch consumer tablet in the market, the built-in fingerprint scanner gives it an edge in the enterprise market.
Janunnati Pad is conceived and developed under government’s ‘Make In India’ initiative and is backed by MAIT, India’s premier ICT hardware industry association. Datamini says Janunnati Pad will enable low-cost financial transactions in India.
The uniqueness of Datamini’s Janunnati Pad lies in its true integration of barcode reader, fingerprint reader and magnetic card reader. Also, Janunnati Pad comes with an ergonomic rugged design which should appeal to enterprise buyers.
As far as specs are concerned, Datamini Janunnati Pad comes with 7-inch IPS display and can be configured with Windows 10 or Android operating system. Under the hood, the tablet is powered by Intel Atom Z8300 processor coupled with 2GB RAM and 32GB expandable storage.
Datamini Janunnati Pad also boasts of a combination of a 5MP/2MP camera which aren’t impressive and would obviously be not used much.
Datamini is extremely optimistic about the product. The company projects shipments in the range of 1,00,000-2,50,000 in the remaining months of this year, which would take immense work to accomplish.
Datamini didn’t really specify a clear price but quotes it in the range of Rs 12,000 and Rs 20,000 depending upon the configuration. The deliveries for the device are expected to start by April.
While Datamini has managed most authentication system including biometric, Debjani Ghosh, Intel VP said the next stage of the product could see integration with Intel RealSense camera for facial recognition which could raise the adoptability of the device.
Datamini seeks to put this product in the hands of enterprise and its MD Pitamber Ahuja added, “With an established background in manufacturing of quality ICT hardware, we strongly believe the timing is apt for such a revolutionary product to be introduced in the country that can address the emerging needs for custom-built, application-specific enterprise class Tablets in the Indian as well as export markets.”
Datamini’s Janunnati Pad is definitely useful for enterprise-class needs like data validation and eKYC, but will this product gain any adoption in the Indian market, only time will tell.
