Night-time skincare rituals for the working woman
Early morning yoga, multiple deadlines to meet, personal commitments; working women are always on-the-go, often forgetting an essential — self-care! Well, ladies, take a minute to think about your skin after a long day at work. Here are some tips for a daily skincare routine.
After a long day, a warm shower sounds perfect, doesn’t it? Wash away the tough day, with some soothing music. A warm shower will help your pores open up and let your skin breathe.
It’s a good time to give your skin the 360 degrees TLC it needs like removing make-up, exfoliating and a quick pedicure too. Squeeze a lemon and use this on your knees, elbows and feet. Massage gently and rinse with lukewarm water. This mixture will help remove dead cells and soften the area.
Go natural with a DIY facemask to soothe your skin. Mix some rosewater with yoghurt and apply the mixture on your skin. Leave on for 15 minutes and then rinse off with warm water. This will leave you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated after long hours of hard work. Pat your skin dry with a soft clean towel and follow up with a good moisturiser.
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate
With the 9-5 drill, the skin can be left feeling dull and tired at the end of the day! So give it a pick-me-up with the right moisturiser. Go in for a lightweight essence with restoring properties and follow this up with a moisturiser with hydrating properties that is formulated to renew your skin. “Before you get into bed, apply a few dots of the moisturiser onto your skin. You can use a cold derma roller on your face to help reduce puffiness and boost blood circulation. This night-time routine will give your skin a glowing radiant look while making it plump, firm and supple. Drink a lot of water as well, so that your body is hydrated inside out,” recommends David Khoo, Principal Scientist, Olay, Procter & Gamble.
Soothe the eyes
On your laptop, attending to a number of messages all take a toll on your eyes. Cucumber is a great natural remedy to get rid of under-eye puffiness. Take 2 slices of fresh refrigerated cucumber and place it on your eyes for 15 minutes. It will help refresh your mind as well as your eyes, and the anti-inflammatory properties of the cool cucumber will naturally help reduce puffy tissues. Follow this with a few dots of under-eye cream and massage it gently from the corner of your eye to your nose-bone. This will help reduce the appearance of fine lines, puffiness and leave your eyes feeling plump.
A good night’s sleep is so important to get your body the rest it needs. Clean sheets, pillowcases and light cotton pyjamas are necessary so that your skin can breathe well while you sleep. This is also a great time for a digital detox. Keep your phone away, light some aroma candles and lose yourself in your favourite book. This will help you de-stress and revitalise your body, and allow you to feel the difference in your skin.
