“It takes a village to raise a child.” You don't realise the absolute truth in this statement until you become a mother. No matter how long your career has been, the very first day you become a mom, you realise there is no training, there is no boss. You learn on the job, and it is not an easy one. You are simultaneously raising two babies – one human and one your company. Being a mom is exhilarating and nerve-wracking at the same time, and so is running your own company. Both together? You are definitely in for a ride of a lifetime.

On the onset, the most important thing is to take care of yourself. Because if you are unwell, your baby and job, both will suffer. Another aspect that comes in here is patience. Patience with your child, patience with your job and patience with yourself; reminding yourself that you don’t always have to get it right. While both are your babies, sometimes, you will have to prioritise one over the other, and that’s completely fine.

The next aspect to being successful at being a businesswoman and a mom is to have a robust support system. At home, it may be your parents, in-laws, siblings or even house-help, who can take care of the child while you work. At work, you need the support of someone you completely trust who can manage things in your absence.

Time management becomes a top skill you learn even if you never were good at it. Having fixed working hours and ensuring you don’t work beyond that or on weekends gives you some much needed undivided time with your child. In addition to this, you also have to make time for your partner, family, friends and the most important of all, your health. It is only when your mind and body feel fit and healthy, that you can function towards a more active and positive lifestyle and do justice to your kid and company.

In today’s times, we have it much easier since you can see your kid whenever you want through video calling. You can keep track of their movements through baby cams. You can work from home whenever necessary and use the best of technology to your advantage. Journal, retrospect and get to work; that’s how I'd define my dual life of being the woman of my dreams!

Spend more time with your kids, you won’t regret it. Because at the end of the day, however, tired you may be, seeing a smile on that tiny face is sure to melt your heart.
