KBC 11 slammed for disrespecting Chhatrapati Shivaji; Sony TV issues apology
Kaun Banega Crorepati 11 has found itself in a controversy. Last night, while watching the show, if you noticed a ticker with an apology for an inadvertent inaccurate reference to Chhatrapati Shivaji, we are here to give you details.
On Wednesday, host Amitabh Bachchan had asked a question to the hot seat contestant Shaheha Chandran, and its options did not go down well with a section of the public.
The Rs 80,000 question read – Which of these rulers was the contemporary of Mughal emperor Aurangazeb? The four options given were Maharana Pratap, Rana Sanga, Maharaj Ranjit Singh and Shivaji. As soon as the episode aired, people took to social media to slam Sony TV and Big B for insulting Shivaji by not adding any prefix to his name, like the other options.
Netizens took to Twitter to demand a ban on KBC for the same. Today, a message doing rounds in media also stated that Rashtrawadi Congress will be demonstrating in front of the Sony office to demand an apology. While everything seems normal at the Malad office, the channel has now uploaded a video on its social media page apologising for its slip-up.
Posting the video of the on-air apology, Sony TV stated, “There was an inaccurate reference to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj during Wednesday’s KBC episode, due to inadvertence. We deeply regret the same and being mindful of the sentiments of our viewers have carried a scroll expressing regret during our episode yesterday.”

A source close to KBC shared with indianexpress.com, “It was a human error. The makers understand and accept the same. And this is the reason the apology was aired on Thursday’s episode. The channel did not intend to hurt any sentiments and hopes the public accepts its apology.”
Creative guru Siddharth Basu under his production company Big Synergy launched Kaun Banega Crorepati in 2000 with superstar Amitabh Bachchan as the host. The thespian, who made his TV debut with KBC, went on to make the show a historic success. Time and again, the show has managed to top the rating chart and also touch hearts with the many rags to riches stories of the contestants.
Bankrolled by Studio NEXT, Kaun Banega Crorepati 11, till now, has seen three crorepati winners in Sanoj Raj, Babita Tade and Gautam Kumar Jha.
