Sensex Closes 167 Points Lower, Nifty Gives Up 11,000
The domestic stock markets ended lower on Thursday after trading in the green for most part of the day. The S&P BSE Sensex closed 166.54 points lower, or 0.45 per cent, at 37,104.28. NSE's benchmark index Nifty settled at 10,981.05, down 54.65 points or 0.50 per cent from the previous close, breaking its five-day gaining streak. The losses were led by auto, energy and IT stocks. Thirty five out of 50 Nifty stocks closed in the negative zone. Top laggards on the Sensex index were Yes Bank, Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki and Axis Bank, which settled between 4.68 and 2.74 per cent lower.
